An Open Letter to the Crazy Lady in the Ultrasound Waiting Room

Dear Crazy Lady,

I'm sure you had the best intentions.  I'm sure you were just being friendly.  I'm sure you weren't passing judgement on the sweaty, frazzled, overwhelmed, practically in tears mother of the baby bomb sitting next to you.

Yes, I said baby bomb.  Because, Crazy Lady, not all of us have babies that sleep when they're tired & are happy all day.  Some of us walk around on edge with baby bombs that are ready to explode at any minute for no reason at all.  They don't sleep well in their cribs, they cry while they eat, and they make going out in public a bit of a nightmare.  We love these baby bombs because we know that someday they will stop exploding & they'll be happy for more than 10 minutes at a time, but still, when they are loaded we're a bit tense.

So, Crazy Lady, perhaps asking me if my screaming 8 week old is "spoiled" was not the best thing to do.  Perhaps, telling me, while I'm waiting to get an ultrasound of my infant daughter's hip for what feels like the zillionth time, that I'll spoil her if I hold her too much, was a bit harsh.

And, perhaps turning up the television so that Tyra Banks was blasting all of our eardrums so you could hear her over the crying that is taking place next to you, made the baby & the baby's mama even more tense.  Or did you not notice?

Crazy Lady, don't inflict your craziness on any other unsuspecting mothers.  Perhaps, just perhaps, they are already stressed out enough.

Thank you from the Peekaboo Management.

I never, ever stop being surprised by people willing to tell STRANGERS how to raise their kids. I mean, if one is not physically hurting or verbally abusing a child in public (and I know YOU aren't) then no one should say BOO to you about the things they imagine you are doing wrong.

my favorite is when they talk to your kid, not you. people used to tell jack all the time that his mama should put a hat on them. as if he didn't just yank it off...

wow---that's really crazy. sorry you had to go through that. i can only imagine the steam that must have been blowing from your ears! at least i would have been ready to blow up--maybe a mommy bomb. some people have no decency and no clue. poor crazy lady. maybe someday she will learn how to keep her mouth shut when it is not requested that it open.

Wow. I'm surprised the Mommy bomb didn't go off.

This is SO funny. If this is what hardship does to you, I hope for our sake you have a crappy day every day!

Ug, I don't look forward to people like that. Pass her your baby and see how she handles it!!

You should have just burst into tears like you felt like doing. That would have put her in her place

Oh man, I definitely would have started crying. I would have had no idea what to do or say. Thankfully, no one has ever said a word to me about what I am doing with/to my kids. Some people have given me looks, but maybe I have scared them off with my looks. I remember sitting in a waiting room with Elizabeth when she was a "baby bomb" of 3 months old and she was screaming and screaming and wouldn't eat or calm down and I just had tears running down my cheeks. People stared at me and some looked at me like maybe I had no idea what to do (which was true) but nobody tried to encourage or help me...I will never forget that!!
