The 30's are breathing down my neck...

Another 30 post. I a little over a week I'm sure there will be a 3rd 30's post.

I started feeling very down this weekend about my impending 30th birthday. That feeling kind of snuck up on me. I was feeling strange about the birthday, but not down until then.

I think I thought 30 looked a lot different than it does. It signals "adult" to me, but most days I sure don't feel very adult. I think I expected to feel more accomplished. I expected to have a career I was proud of (I'm sure mostly in case I run into someone I went to high school with! That's silly.), to have my Master's degree, and to be finished having kids. That's not the case for any of those things. None of those things really matter, I know. I have a husband & son that I adore and friends and family that love me, but I still feel down about 30.

Don't be surprised if you see me out clubbing this week. I've got to live up the rest of my 20's!

call me when you're headed to the club - or just want a new partner for dance carpet!

Hey, at least you had a kid by the time your were 30! That was my big goal! And you have a very challenging job, one that no one else could do! ;-) (And if it makes you feel any better, you look younger than 30!) Happy early birthday and anniversary!

Don't you know that the 30's are the new 20's? You're still a spring chick! : )

Hello sweet cousin! I promise you I felt all these things and worse last year. I would love to say it all goes away, but it does not! But hey, better than the other options! :)

I just want to say that I'm excited for your 30's. Feel free to mourn the 20's if they feel like a loss. We'll be there to enjoy you in your 30's when you're done...

I felt the same way when I turned 30 (nearly 2 years ago). I did everything the hard way, careerwise (trying to become an illustrator while having a one-year-old is tough - I know I could be a lot better at it, but I just have no time). I thought I would be more successful & more together by now! I love being a mom but I really thought I'd be better at that, more June Cleaver-ish, than I am!

What was helpful, though, was reading blogs like Ayelet Waldman's or essays by Anne Lamott, where they said their 30s was actually much better. Maybe your friend is right - the 30's are the new 20's!

(I found your blog through John's site.)

So I was letting the iTunes go on random this morning, and up came the song "Older" by They Might Be Giants--I immediately thought of this post!

"You're older than you've ever been, and now you're even older... now you're even older... and now your even older...."

Happy Birthday (Tuesday)!
